OK, we need to do an equation of the form y = mx + c, where m is the slope of the line. In this diagram, the X axis for years, the axis of the population.
Calculate the slope of the line of development of the deviation of x divided by the difference
The difference within and from 24.3 to 4.4 = 19.9
and the difference of X 1990 - 1945 = 45
19.9/45 = 0.44222222 (Let's order them to 0.44)
Now we have to work if the 0.44 or 0.44, the population line graph below, it is -0.44. Therefore, y = 0.44x + c
c develop, we need a given two values of x is used. In this case we use 1945 (which we are told that the use of x = 0)
24.3 (population 1945) = -0.44 x x 0 (= 0 remember now) + c
Therefore, c = 24,3
So Y = 0.44x + 24.3.
Poption for the years 1975 and 1980 only require that you put in different values of x ...
If 1945 is x = 0, then 1975 x = 30 (from 1975 to 1945)
Therefore y (population) x 30 = -0.44 + 24.3
y = -13.2 + 24.3
y = 11.1 m
1980 x = 35 (from 1980 to 1945)
Therefore y (population) x 35 = -0.44 + 24.3
y = -15.4 + 24.3
y = 8.9 million
